NADIA COMANECI, THE BEST GYMNAST OF THE HISTORY

   In the Olympic Games of Montreal 1976, a Romanian athlete obtained a unvelievable record: she obtained a 10. The dream of all gymnasts.

THE BEGINNINGS OF NADIA

      Nadia Elena Comaneci was born in Romania on the 12 th of November in 1961. At the age of 6, she was accepted in a team of gymnastics (the coaches were Marta Karolyi and Valeriu MUnteanu). Years later, the coach of Nadia was Bela Karolyi.

      In 1969, when she was seven years old, she participated in an official Championships. She finished this Campionships in the 13 th place. One year later, she competed in the same Championships and she finished in the first place. 

      At the age of twelve, she went to a special school of gymnastics where she trained with Karolyli 8 hours during 6 days of the week. In 1974, she was the Youth World Champion.

       In 1975, during the Championships of Europe celebrated in Skien (Norway), she showed her excellent qualities. She was better than Lyudmila Turishcheva (from Russia).

       In 1976, she participated in the American Coup in New York. She won and she became the first woman in to do a very difficul jump. In this Coup, Bart Conner competed too. Year later, he became the husband of Nadia. Bart Conner was also an Olympic medalist in the Olympic Games of Los Angeles in 1984.

NADIA IN THE OLYMPIC GAMES OF MONTREAL IN 1976

      On the 18 th of July in 1976, Comaneci began her participation in the Olympics of Montreal. An excellent intervention took place!

THE PERFECT MARK

        Nadia Comaneci had done a perfect intervention, however, the scoreboard showed "1.00". What? But, the jury said that the mark of Nadia was "10.00". The scoreboard couldn´t put "10.00"! Nadia Comaneci obtained the perfect mark, she became the first person in to obtain this mark in the history of gymnastics.

     Comaneci finished this Olympics with seven perfect marks and five medals (three gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal. She also established one record: she became the younger champion in the history in gimnastics. Nowadays, this record is impossible to break this record, because the younger gymnasts must be 16 years old to compete.

AFTER THE OLYMPIC GAMES OF MONTREAL

      Nadia was received in Romania as a true heroine. She won a lot of prizes given by the BBC, the Associated Press...

        Comaneci participated in the Olympic Games of Moscow in 1980. When she participated in these Olympics, she was 18 years old. She won two gold medals and two silver medals.

       

         In 1984, she left her career as gymnasts and she became the coach of a Romanian team, firt, and of a Canadian team, then.  In 1989 she went to the United States, where she married in 1996 with Bart Conner.
         
       During all her life, she has won a lot of important prizes. She is the best in gymnastics in the history.
